What’s new?
Setting up a new Fastly service now comes with a curated set of CDN and security configurations recommended by our own Solutions Engineering, Customer Engineering, and Support teams — automatically surfaced during service creation so you don’t have to hunt them down later.
Here’s what’s included out of the box:
CDN Defaults (on by default)

Compression — Brotli with Gzip fallback, so your content is delivered as efficiently as possible

HTTP/3 — Modern protocol support enabled automatically for faster, more reliable connections

Force TLS & HSTS — Secure connections enforced from day one, no extra configuration required
Security Defaults

Fastly Managed TLS — Certificate management handled by Fastly, on by default

DDoS Protection — Surfaced during service creation with Logging Mode as the default when enabled

Next-Gen WAF — Available to configure directly from the service creation workflow when enabled
Every recommendation can be reviewed, modified, or turned off before you deploy.

The next time you create a CDN service in the Fastly console, you’ll see the new CDN Essentials panel on the right-hand side of the service creation workflow. Your recommended defaults are already pre-populated — just review the settings, make any adjustments, and deploy with a strong baseline configuration.
