"Traffic Sources" or "Top Referrers"

Various web analytics solutions will often show this sort of information: “where did your traffic come from” which would be the same as a list of “top referrers”.

“The referrer is the webpage that sends visitors to your site using a link. In other words, it’s the webpage that a person was on right before they landed on your page.”

Is this analytics information available in the Fastly portal? Just curious. (Maybe others will have a similar question, and find this post.)

Hi @sdarwin,

Short answer is no.

Long answer is… we offer a bunch of stats based on request data that we can segment fairly coarsely, such as HTTP status code, whether the request was a cache hit or miss, and which global region the request came from. You can find these on the “Observability” tab of the control panel.

However, we don’t observe detailed aspects of your traffic for a few reasons - first, we prefer not to retain data on customer traffic, to avoid creating data protection and governance obligations that we would need to properly fulfil, and secondly because there are very good tools to do this already, like New Relic, Datadog, Splunk, and so on, and we have integrations with a ton of them, so we suggest you use the tool of your choice to analyse your traffic.
