Domain Management is now independent of service configuration!

We’re excited to share a significant improvement to how you manage domains on our platform, reducing deployment risk, accelerating workflows, unlocking new flexibility for multi-service architectures, staged migrations, domain-level security and TLS automation.

What’s new?

Users can now manage domains, certificates, and routing relationships independently, making it faster and safer to operate at scale. This means:

  • Simplified management of domains in one place across the Fastly platform

  • Reduced friction by not needing to do a full deployment just to add or remove a domain

  • Only a few clicks or an API call with zero downtime to change the service a domain routes to

  • No more domain limits per service or service pinning requirement for customers that have large numbers of domains

  • Prepare domains in advance with TLS certificates before you’re ready to route traffic

  • Safer rollbacks — domains stay pointed to active services even when you roll back versions

Ready to get started?

Look for the new “Domains” icon in your console’s left-hand navigation. We’ve pre-populated your domain list from certificates in your account — you’ll see a “-” in the Service column for domains still using the legacy system. Simply assign a service to each of your domains to start using the new platform.

A few things to know

  • Wildcards: The new system follows DNS/TLS standards — *.example.com covers one subdomain level only (e.g., foo.example.com ✓, foo.bar.example.com needs its own wildcard or cert)

  • Platform TLS customers: Reach out to your account manager to discuss your specific needs

What’s next

We have not set a hard deadline for migrating off the legacy system yet, but we will build future features (like Path Based Routing and Bulk Redirects) on this new platform.
